Although we aren’t always hiring, seasonal employment positions generally open up in early spring. We have two main areas of our business, the nursery, greenhouse and gardens as well as our landscape bed maintenance and installation crews. We are not a mowing company and do not do lawn maintenance. Nursery, Greenhouse & Garden Positions:
Starting Pay: $12.00 – $20.00 per hour (Experience, Skills and Education considered for appropriate candidates)
Job Overview
Maintain daily nursery and greenhouse operations to ensure plant stock is clean, cared for, watered and trimmed. The majority of this position is outdoors, in greenhouses or Quonset (hoop) houses depending on seasonal changes attending to plant stock. Make sure nursery stock to be clean and well organized for customer presentation. Plant identification and knowledge is highly desirable. Assisting customers with plant selections as well as office skills are a plus. Understanding of watering, light requirements, soil types, landscape materials also a plus. We love dogs and you may encounter one from time to time.
Duties
- Maintain and operate irrigation systems and hand watering to ensure optimal watering schedules for diverse crops and plants
- Perform regular weeding, garden trimming, pruning to uphold aesthetic standards
- Conduct plant pest control activities to prevent infestations and ensure healthy plant development
- Oversee greenhouse cultivation activities, weeding and watering
- Utilize mechanical knowledge and hand tools for equipment maintenance, repairs, and installations related to irrigation or horticultural systems
- Identify plants accurately through plant identification skills to facilitate proper care and pest management
- Perform heavy lifting tasks safely during planting or landscape projects while maintaining a focus on safety regulations
- Implement basic math skills for measuring soil amendments, water volumes, or fertilizer applications in accordance with crop needs
- Push mowing may be required, please wear appropriate footwear and trousers if mowing.
Experience
- Proven experience working outdoors in gardening, farming, landscaping or similar environments with hands-on plant care responsibilities
- Familiarity with irrigation management systems and agricultural environmental control systems for optimal plant growth
- Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM), plant pest control methods, and crop pest management techniques
- Experience using hand tools, mechanical equipment, or gardening machinery necessary for landscape maintenance or greenhouse operations
- Ability to identify various plant species accurately and assess their health status effectively
Office Skills a Plus + (Not Required)
- Customer Service, Sales – Helping Retail Customers looking to purchase plants or landscaping services, Processing payments, totaling purchases, applying tax, making change.
- Answering Phones – Courteous and considerate, we have many long term customers who call for scheduling services or looking for assistance with landscape concerns
- Voicemail – Listening to and noting voicemail messages, calling back throughout the day when the phones are unanswered
- Calling Suppliers – Ordering supplies, checking availability of products for jobs, etc.
- Typing – Invoices, Contracts and Proposals (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
- Email – Checking email, sending replies as necessary
- Landscape Design / Photographic Design Software – We utilize photographic landscape design software, graphic design, landscape design and plant identification skills would apply – a portfolio of prior design work would be required at interview.
- Horticultural Label Printer – We have a laser-film Horticultural Tag printer for printing plastic stick and slip (hang) tags on site. Prior experience using a tag printer a plus.

Weekly Pay
Hours may be flexible or part-time for the right candidate. You are required to come dressed appropriately for the weather each day, as the position is primarily outdoors, expect exposure to a variety of plants including tropicals, cacti (thorns), perennials, trees, shrubs, insects, ticks, spiders, mosquitos, wildlife, poison ivy (please keep an eye out), sunlight, high humidity, heat, rain, wind, snow, cold if position extends through the winter months, etc. as this position can be seasonal. Please come prepared to work comfortably. Waterproof / resistant hiking shoes or boots and long pants are recommended daily attire. Sunglasses, hats and sunscreen are recommended in summer months.
We are Members of the Midwest Cactus & Succulent Society and have participated in the Cactus Show at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens annually. We also offer Proven Winners Certification each spring.
