This week is going to be HOT and we will likely see more high temperatures as the summer progresses, please make sure to keep recent plantings watered and watch for stress such as wilting, drying / defoliating leaves or yellowing. Many plants may wilt during the day even if they are receiving enough water, but should perk back up overnight – if you notice a plant that is still wilted come morning, it will need to be watered IMMEDIATELY!
Do NOT rely on a lawn sprinkler system to keep larger shrubs and trees watered, these systems are meant to maintain moisture and keep your lawn alive, trees and shrubs need a lot more water to sustain themselves. Make sure to water any recent plantings with a hose following our watering instructions below.
Other Tips: Water all the way around the plant, just not on one side – you do not continuously need to circle the hose around the plant, so long as you water all sides of the plant. Plants closer to the house or under an awning are likely dryer – make sure to water the backside where the awning or building may have restricted past rain from saturating the soil. The edges of plant beds will dry out first – make sure delicate plants on the edge of your beds are well watered and mulched to retain the moisture in the soil.
